In loving memory of
Peter (Chandran) Swampillai
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Peter Swampillai, on Thursday the 27th of April at his home in Cheam, Surrey.
Chandran was born in Jaffna in 1943 to his beloved parents Josephine and Abraham Swampillai, the fifth child of nine siblings.
He was an alumnus of St Patrick’s College, Jaffna and Institute of Practical Technology, Katubedda. Chandran emigrated to England in 1972 completing his degree in mechanical engineering at South Bank University and going on to complete a master’s degree at Kingston University. After starting his career in academia, Chandran worked as a Computing Engineer in the UK Defence Industry at both British Aerospace and GEC Marconi before moving with his family to Belgium in 1987. Chandran spent several years working overseas, including at SWIFT headquarters in Belgium, before returning to the UK in 1995 to work as an IT Consultant in investment banking.
Chandran was the proud father of three daughters, Ann Easwary Swampillai (Barrister, Senior Civil Servant), Dr. Kumutha Bernadette Zuliani (Director of Data Science), Khrisha Antoinette Swampillai (Economist, Senior Commercial Manager - BP), and he was a caring father-in-law to Mikael Down, Jason Zuliani and Matthew Bambridge.
He was also a devoted grandfather to Misha Joseph and Marni Lakshmi Down, and to Madeleine Aananthi, Evelyn Indra and Grace Keshini Zuliani. He was a loving brother to Jeya (late), Cecil, Mahes, Navaratnam (late), Raji, Rajakumar, Julia (late) and Miriam; and caring brother-in-law to Indra Swampillai (late), Anton Saverimuttu, Florence Swampillai, Harold Anthony, Niranjala Swampillai, Bernard Selvaratnam and John Philips.
He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
