Mrs. Cyrilda Winifred Poomani Alagaratnam

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cyrilda Winifred Poomani Alagaratnam, on November 15th, 2022, three days before her 103rd birthday.

She was born on November 18, 1919, in Jaffna, Sri Lanka and attended school at Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala. She made Toronto, Canada her home since 1992.

She was the devoted wife of late Lawrence Alagaratnam, daughter of late Lily and Simon Sinnathurai, and daughter-in-law of late Victoria and S.A. Alagaratnam (former Prefect of Games and Head Teacher, St. Patrick’s College, Jaffna).

She was a loving mother to Ainsley Alagaratnam (Kamali), late Kingsley Alagaratnam, Stanley Alagaratnam (Thavam), Shirani (Hemachandra), Rita (late Jauffar), Lesley Alagaratnam (Flora) and Eardley Alagaratnam.

She was the beloved sister of late Cyril Sinnathurai (Trinet), late Joe Sinnathurai (Sheila, dec.), late Theresa (Raju Alagaratnam, dec.), late Christine (Mathew James, dec.) and Rita (Alex Dassanayake, dec.), and sister-in-law of late Pauline (M. Lawrence, dec.), late Cathleen (S.A. John, dec.), Caroline (C. Bastiampillai, dec.), late Theresa ( K. Samuel), late Cecilia (S. Anthonipillai, dec.), and late Rita (A. Bastiampillai, dec.).

She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Shanthini Marina (Emmanuel), Pramila Anne (Jayaratne), Sudarshani Patricia (Lakshman Hewawitharana), Merian (Dissanayake), Shanu (Nishi), Dulanja Kevin, Ravi (Marita), Radhika (Ruairi), Kriska and Rizvi.

She also leaves behind her great grandchildren, nephews, and nieces, as well as countless other family members and friends.
